Don’t have massage skills? Have studied massage before but need a refresher course? Need to add massage to your other skill sets? Our training courses fill up with students with a range of skills and differing requirements. The broad skill presentation of this training course is designed to effectively enable everyone to learn more in a precise method.

If you are an osteopath, chiropractor, physiotherapist, acupuncturist, sports therapist, massage therapist, SCENAR therapist or indeed any kind of wellbeing therapist, fresh massage skills can make a real difference to your day to day working outcomes. We have also trained many people with no therapy background that were looking for a change in career.

Massage involves working the soft tissue of the body, to ease day-to-day stresses and muscular tension, and promote relaxation. It helps to increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the treated areas and can also be used in support of other therapies to assist in the rehabilitation of muscular injuries. Being able to use the correct massage techniques really enhances the outcome of your clients’ treatments.

What is a Gua Sha good for?

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing method in which a trained professional uses a smooth-edged tool to stroke the skin while pressing on it. This motion raises small, red, rash-like dots that show under your skin called petechiae. Gua Sha can effectively help to treat chronic pain all over the body. Effectively reduces or eliminates ‘muscle knots’ and tension.

What is Cupping good for?
Cupping is a form of therapy that originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. It has been used in the West for decades to encourage healing. Cupping is almost like a deep tissue massage with suction and decompression.

Chinese medical practitioners believe cupping helps keep the body in balance, increases overall blood flow and reduces pain. Some athletes use this type of therapy to decrease muscle recovery time.

Cupping uses a cup to pull an area of skin into a suction that decompresses muscles and connective tissue. This promotes blood flow to the compromised area, enhances circulation and helps to increase the body’s own healing processes — almost like a backward deep tissue massage.

Two popular types of cupping: stationary and sliding. Stationary cupping uses suction only, keeping the cups in place for a set time, usually 5 to 10 minutes. Sliding cupping is more like a deep tissue massage where the therapist moves the cups over the area of pain or concern.

During a cupping session, a practitioner places round cups directly on the skin. The cup is either first heated with fire or manually pumped to create a suction. The cups are then left on the skin for several minutes. We will be utilising the ‘cold’ pumped option on this training course.

Practitioners use cupping to treat a wide variety of conditions. It can be especially effective at treating pain and muscle aches. Applying cups to specific acupressure points may also help alleviate digestive complaints, skin issues and respiratory problems.

About the Course

Massage has been used for centuries to provide whole-body relaxation and restoration – reaching all the major organs and helping the muscles, bones and soft tissues to stay healthy.

This Professional Massage Therapist Course begins by taking you through various basic parts of the anatomy and systems of the body, to give important knowledge about why massage is used and in what ways it is beneficial to the body, including which techniques to use for specific ailments.

It also details best practices, how to recognise symptoms of various conditions, and how specific clients are treated, for example when it is safe to massage someone in pregnancy, the techniques that are used and those that are avoided.

The massage principle is simple: touch means stimulation. This means that wherever touch is used, the body reacts. Because of the changing landscape of the skin and the body parts it protects, differing levels of touch on the body elicit a range of responses; a soft stroke on the forearm may induce relaxation, but a deeper touch might help the blood vessels in the lower arm take blood back to the heart or stimulate and deepen blood flow to painful muscles.

As you learn massage therapy, you will uncover how to create the right atmosphere for massage and how to conduct a session, to give a positive experience. This includes an overview of the oils used for massage and how the choice of oils can have positive effects on certain conditions of the body or mind.

It then moves onto the practice of the subject; massage techniques and how they are deployed to various parts of the body, and how each treatment is beneficial. The course also takes you through specific massage supporting applications, such as Gua Sha and Cupping, and their benefits.

Who Would Benefit from This Course?
The Massage Therapist Diploma Course will take you from complete beginner to having all the knowledge you need to provide effective massages, along with giving a solid foundation for advanced study and further education in specific treatment areas. It is also a great course to refresh your massage skills.

This is the training course that demystifies the complexity of massage techniques and gives you an effective and rapid way of treating your clients while learning how to integrate your new skills into your practice, fast!
